Residential Design
Originally brought on to help style their condo, our clients presented us with a plot twist just as things were about to kick off: they had impulsively bought their dream home and it needed some love.
Located at the end of an unassuming lane, this 1990’s contemporary home is nestled amongst a wooded hillside, backing onto a small cove. The idyllic setting had us lost for words, but the interior was dated in both function and form. Our clients are an easy-going young couple who love to entertain and required an update to the interior of the home to match their social lifestyle.
The house had great bones, but needed some serious attention to bring the quality of the home up to modern standards. Our first big move was to remove a spiral staircase which previously chopped up the kitchen layout and added unnecessary access to the second level. This allowed us to increase the kitchen window to a substantial size which frames out the beautiful view of the wooded lot, and completely reimagine the flow of the kitchen. In the living room, the previous stone veneer fireplace was removed in favor of a contemporary design. The sunken living/dining space and social lifestyle of our clients inspired us to embrace a mid-century modern flavor for our styling choices. The overall palette was an intentionally moody mix of MCM colors combined with natural materials that reference the landscape. Cocktail, anyone?
